  Join us on Thursday, September 17 at the LIUNA Local 1309 Hall in Lakewood for a Candidate Coffee with Dr. Ayanna Davis, candidate for Assembly District 65. It's a moderated conversation — an unhurried one — about goods movement and port competitiveness, the real-world cost and timeline of the state's zero-emission rules, infrastructure funding, the trades and maritime workforce pipeline, and what it takes for an employer to stay in this region and grow here. Then the floor opens, and you ask your own questions.

  A little about Dr. Davis. She grew up in Compton, in a union household — her mother worked for the city, her stepfather was a fire captain and a union president. She became a teacher, then a principal, leading the Maxine Waters and Ethel Bradley Early Education Centers, and she was elected to the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2022. She holds a doctorate in organizational change and leadership from USC.
